12 Hour Shift embodies a rich musical tradition with influences ranging from Johnny Cash and Ray Charles to Biggie Smalls and Sublime. The Brooklyn based group first formed in 2005 after a long night of whisky drinking and vinyl playing. Since then they have been on the music scene playing house parties, community farms, bars and night clubs.
Where they come from is an integral part of who they are as a band. The city that produced the Harlem Renaissance, The Greenwhich folk scene, punk and hip-hop has been instrumental (no pun intended) in shaping them as a band. However their style is far from parochial, as they incorporate the music of the deep south, Caribbean, middle-east, Europe, and in rare cases New Jersey.
The old and the new are key in what constitutes the balance that keeps the music of 12 Hour Shift fresh. Always writing and creating, they hope to hit every venue that features live music in the country before gaining fame and notoriety, then eventually developing crippling drug habits and egos that will mark the end of the band.
But until then...
